Refit Video - Episode 7

Episode 7 shows an innovative use of an old boat, installing the traveler horse, preparing the water tank and lifting it into place. There is a significantly longer version of how the tank was lifted and maneuvered into place here.

  1. Hi there , I have a 68 Islander 44 "Mystic Flyer". I was wondering if you plan on changing or inspecting your chainplates?

    1. Thanks for your comment. Great, another Islander 44! Do you have pictures posted? I have thought about how I would add knees under the deck as anchor points for new chain plates that were easy to watch. I may do it some day. The existing ones show no discoloration or signs of water ever getting to them. I re-seal the deck plates every year and check often when sailing rail-down with the chainplates under many inches of water. I've never seen anything come through but it seems it will some day. If it does, it will definitely get trapped there. I may just goop up the gap around the plates just under the deck with 3M 4000 and keep up the deck plate sealing program. A risky strategy, maybe. We'll see.

Hopefully this link works for a photo. This is in Guaymas Mex.
For me, I'm going to change them. I plan on sailing to Asia in Dec. and they're 46 years old, I need the peace of mind. I just need to decide how I'm going to do it.
Thanks for responding, I very much enjoy your blog and videos.
